Gary has been taking photos since way back when he was in school and joined a photography club.  Taking a picture of the moon, developing the film, then watching the image appear on the photo paper turned on a passion which has never switched off.

Looking for any opportunity to improve his skills he always had a camera in hand and would be out at every opportunity taking photos of people, places and nature.  Beyond learning all different styles of photography, Gary also worked on building his knowledge of the underlying technologies and equipment.  He entered competitions and submitted images to magazines for critiques to learn ways to improve.

Gary moved over to digital photography in the mid 90’s combining film and digital and linking his engineering, computing and photography skills into one.

Working with Photoshop since it was a little-known application and didn’t even have a version number, Gary’s natural ability with technology and his understanding of film developing techniques has helped him build his post processing skills

These days, beyond keeping busy shooting events with Liz, Gary teaches photography and post processing across Western Australia and is one of the busiest photographic judges in the state judging and critiquing images at camera clubs, and at major photography shows including the Perth Royal Show.

I may have improved on that first moon shot over the years’ as well.

Glitz Event Photography came about as a result of Gary and Liz spending far too many hours wandering the bushland, national parks and walks around Perth chasing that elusive nature photograph of an unusual, rare or timid animal, bird or bug wghilst talking all things photography.  Gary had already photographed many events as GPT Photography when Liz was asked by an associate if she could help at an event last minute after their existing photographer had pulled out.  Gary agreed to assist Liz shooting the event and the results were so well received that additional jobs started coming in.  Thus it was during a short break for a coffee at one of these events the seed was sown, Liz took the G from Gary along with her name and GLItZ was the result.

Since starting on their journey Gary and Liz have worked hard to build the business portfolio and are now shooting several events each month and seeing the business grow.
